whispering pines scorecard and Course Guide

Hole #1 - par 4

Hole #1 is a demanding opening hole that requires a solid drive to left center, as OB runs the entire right side.
Your second shot should favor short and left side of the green. Over the green and right of the green are NO GO ZONES! In drier months, consider taking one or two clubs less on your approach. Short left is the best play.

Hole #2 - Par 3

Hole #2 is played from an elevated tee to a green that runs away from you.
Ten yards short is better than five yards long. OB sits just five yards off the back of the green. In the summer months, taking two clubs less is the smart play. Short is safe. Long is a lost ball and an early scorecard wrecker.

Hole #3 - Par 4

Longer hitters can put away the driver. A 220-yard shot with a slight fade is the ideal play.
The approach carries a small pond with OB to the right. A 15-foot uphill putt is better than a 5-footer past the pin. Stay below the hole.

Hole #4 - Par 4

The first of our signature holes requires a driver of no more than 275 yards. In dry summer months, anything longer can reach the water.
The approach plays over a large pond to a small, two-tiered green that slopes back to front. There is room short and left for those who prefer not to take on the full carry.

Hole #5 - Par 5

This blind uphill tee shot looks wider than it is. Favor the left side of the fairway, as OB runs tight along the right. On busy days, be sure the fairway is clear before teeing off.

The second shot offers more room, but OB continues down the right side. A relatively flat green on this short par 5 gives you your first good look at birdie.

Hole #6 - Par 4

A relatively tight drive leads to a shallow valley in the fairway. The green will receive a high second shot, but like many holes at The Pines, playing short can also be rewarded. Green slopes back right to front left.

Hole #7- Par 5

One of the few holes with a significant difference between the white and blue tees. This uphill par five doglegs sharply left about 75 yards from the green.

Taking a direct line at the green requires a demanding shot over a private home at the corner. Please do not enter the property. Our friendly neighbor kids often have a golf ball stand set up near the green. OB sits behind the green.

Hole #8 - Par 3

A demanding par 3 that calls for a slight fade to avoid the tall pines on the right.

The green slopes sharply from right to front left. As with many holes at The Pines, short left is the smart play. Stay below the hole.

Hole #9 - Par 4

his short uphill par 4 rewards a solid drive and should leave a short iron into a large green.

Take one extra club for the uphill approach, but by all means stay below the hole.

Hole #10 - Par 4

A straight away short par 4 with trees on the right keeping things fair. The green is relatively flat, but does slope back left to front right. This is one pin you can attack.

Hole #11 - Par 3

Our longest par 3 demands a committed swing. Short right is the smart play.

Anything left can kick OB, and long right finds a ditch. Long, high, and straight works well here. In the summer months, consider taking a club or two less.

Hole #12 - Par 5

This hole features a 120-foot drop in elevation and a sweeping view from the elevated tee. Woods on the left catch any pulled tee shot.

A solid drive offers a chance to reach in two, but a strategically placed cherry tree guards the approach about 50 yards from the green. The green is small and slopes, requiring a controlled finish.

Hole #13 - Par 4

A short uphill par 4 that rewards an aggressive line. Longer hitters can play a slight draw to reach the front of the green.

Be sure to listen for the bell if a group is ahead, or drive to the crest and check for yourself before hitting.

Hole #14 - Par 4

Our shortest par 4, but not the easiest. Long hitters may try to carry the copse of trees on the right and drive the green.

The standard play is a 180-yard shot to the left side of the fairway, leaving a simple wedge into the green. Position off the tee sets up the hole.

Hole #15 - Par 5

A claustrophobic tee shot where either a fade or a draw can find trouble. OB runs the entire right side, while the left is wooded but still in play. Favor the left side with a high drive.

Long hitters may reach in two, but three shots is the sensible play. The small green features a forgiving back slope that can set up a birdie chance.

Hole #16 - Par 4

A benign hole as long as you find the widest fairway on the course. Position off the tee makes this one straightforward.

The largest green at The Pines demands the proper club to finish pin high. Distance control is key.

Hole #17 - Par 3

Our other signature hole offers an eye-of-the-needle tee shot to a green that slopes heavily from back to front. A 30ft uphiller is much better than a 10-foot downhiller. DO NOT BE LONG!

Hole #18 - Par 4

“The Pines” features two of the strongest bookend par fours in Pennsylvania, with #1 and #18 ranking as our most difficult holes. OB runs the right side, with trees guarding the left.

The green slopes hard from back right to front left. Stay below the hole and control your approach. Finish with par and you’ve done very well.
